Yo! Welcome to The Curse of Something!
A very special text-adventure/rpg game about large furry men and growin' huge!
Live the life of someone afflicted with a curse that either makes you super fat or ultra buff. You can go out into the woods and fight monsters, or talk to them and try to make friends - or fuck them.
Version 0.18, the 1st half of the Competition updates is now out! Check out these changes:
- The Rival Enemy now has battle sprites
- A bunch of new options in the Purple Room during the Curse of Competition. You can set the rival's starting size, how often competitions happen, how large the rewards for competitions are, and more
- There's a new competition mode where winning rewards you with fat and losing takes it away
- A new competition event - the food eating contest. Your hunger determines your chances of beating your rival
- The size of food order from the computer has been altered so that Large to Dumpster-size meals are bigger
- New Kobold Page Picture
- Berries cost a lot more but count as 'unlockables' meaning that whenever you start a new run you can choose to start with berries that you have unlocked. Note that if you buy berries in the Curse of Nothingness, they won't be unlocked in future runs.
The game will be updated every month, and if you're very nice you can subscribe to my Patreon to get updates a month in advance! In the Patreon version there are more additions to the Curse of Competition. The Rival enemy has more pictures, more attacks, and throughout the day he will ambush you and attempt to steal some of your stats.

I need a tutorial on everything that can be done, and how to fuck everyone
For the Kobold there are 2 scenes, one where you need to be small (have stats close to when you start the game, you can maybe use a tiny elixir or a yellow berry to help with that) and one you can get if you wear the hat you get from the cobra
There are a few scenes at the Unholy Hollows and to get there you need to get the Giant Werewolf's business card. The way to get it is different depending on your species. You'll need him to confide in you about how he feels about humans and to do that you'll likely need to get him his moon artifact from the temple, remind him that you were the one to give it to him, and then talk about his tie
There's a scene with the cobra if you try casting the Spell of Love on him
For the Alligator Pirate, answer his three questions correctly then find him at the pier (you need the Stuff Animal item to be able to answer all of the questions)
For the Forest Knight, when he's small he'll be at the Gym. Lift enough weights to impress him and then compliment and grapple him in battle. If he's too big to be at the Gym then you can use a Black XP potion on him to set him back to level 1. The Black XP Potion can be bought from the Turtle Alchemist after bringing him an empty XP Bottle.
For the Smug Kangaroo, just wait until he's big and compliment his body.
To get to the scene at the shark's place you have to talk to the bat and shark at the bulletin board at night with at least one of them interested in you. For that to happen you either need to flirt with the shark and then apologize to him or talk to the bat about something he's interested in and then ask him to do something else once he's at stage 3. After the scene with them together you can get scenes with them individually by repeating the things that got them interested
Odd question,but in the windows download of T.C.O.S 0.18 theres *images* in the status folder of a white crystal, a naga transformation and a alternate possession one,is there any way to obtain theee statuses?
The white crystal is an item that can be found by exploring, but it's rare. The naga transformation is a Patreon only thing. The alternate possession one is for if you attempt to use salt in the closet while you are possessed
Ahh... , does alt transform do anything special? , and for the naga (as im planning to subscribe anyway) what does it do differently from the dragon,vampire, or werewolf?

The naga transformation gives some stat bonuses like the other transformations. It gives you a bite that injects the same venom the Cobra uses and a more powerful version of the Grapple attack that constricts the enemy. You can use the constrict on the Kobold to get an item that will increase your muscle based on the enemy's fat.
The White Crystal increases the amount of arousal you gain each turn in battle

How do I use the ghost Atlas?
Read it in the closet for a bit until something happens. Check the messages on your computer and make sure you've failed a pact at the temple
What kind of message am I supposed to get?
A glitchy message, but it will give you a word to use somewhere.
How many times am I supposed to read it to get that message?
Also what does the purple shard necklace do?
You just need the message once. If you've failed a pact, you can use the word at the temple.
If you're wearing the purple shard necklace, try using salt against the ghost

Also how do I beat the dragon after eating contest?
The main ones at the start or the ones the Cobra can give you?

Corpulence makes you gain fat each night and makes it so you can't lose fat by exercising. Manliness makes you gain muscle each night and you can't lose muscle by not working out. Debt makes you have to pay off a large amount of money by selling/buying stats. Competition has you fight a rival where the winner takes stats from the loser. Nothingness just gives you some bonus money
how i made to turn every enemy fat in battle?
You can get spells from the Kobold in the Junkyard. To cast them you'll either need to equip the focus stone or get the wand from beating the Cobra
How do I use the XP potion?
You use it while fighting the Forest Knight
It would be nice if you added information about how many food points each option gives you when ordering food

How to flirt with sharks in any mode
If you flirt with the shark and then apologize, the battle will end and you'll be able to get a scene with him and the bat if you find them at the pier's bulletin board. After that, flirting with him again can lead to another scene

is anyone having problems with the time machine saves?
i'm playing on browser and i decided to save to disk my file with the time machine (i also made a regular sve just in case), but when loading that file it says that the file is missing something or is corrupted

Sorry about that! If it says it's corrupted, then it's possible that something went wrong when the file was downloaded and there isn't really anything that can be done about that.
The Time Machine works best for the downloadable PC version. I'm not sure if the issue that caused that was on my end or not but there could be problems because constantly testing that takes up too much time - especially considering I intended the game to be played through multiple times anyway. I should have a warning about that at the start so people don't get disappointed about losing saves

What determines if you win the race against your rival?
It's a random chance influenced by the difference in height and energy between both of you.
it seems that there is a small bug or error that makes that when you face your rival in combat, if he defeats you when you used the muscle gain spell to the maximum (your stats are infinite) it is bugged and you keep all that size, even with the combat finished.
edit: if you're wondering how the hell he beat me with those stats? i gave him strength by accident, leaving his stats at maximum too and he kicked my ass.
Yeah, allowing such high numbers keeps leading to problems. I'll have to figure out how to fix that
What do all the computer messages do
Some of them unlock new areas, other ones unlock fast travel buttons on the side menu
So what does this new update offer?
Heyo, not related to the current update but I'm curious. How do you get the "barrel" stacks on the alligator pirate? And also, is it possible to visit him after having his sex scene? He's my favorite so I'm curious. It's been sad seeing the beach area be completely empty for so long, lol
To get the barrel stacks, fight him multiple times. The more you fight him the more it goes up, but it goes down a bit at the end of each day.
And you can't get the scene again. After going through the scene he'll be gone for a couple of days and then appear at the pier's bulletin board. That's it for now though

I can't wait to see the changes to the Rival! I'm super excited since I love the curse of competition for being so weird and fun! I'm especially excited for more expansions to the stories of the characters already here.
Will the new enemies have sprites for hexes?, such as the fat and small, also How do you plan to do the Custom Enemy Maker? (I am pretty interested in it!)
When the Robot and Rival get their pictures, they will each have 10: 4 muscle stages, 4 fat stages, a small stage, and a combination of fat and muscle.
For the Custom Enemy Maker, the first update it is in is pretty simple where you can set starting stats and give him a few different attacks. So you set 3 different attacks that he will randomly choose from, and those 3 different attacks can be a physical attack, a stat increasing/decreasing move, and a stat draining move.
The 2nd update allows you to give him 5 attacks, adds a couple of new attack types, and gives you more control over how he chooses which attacks to use. There's also the ability to save and load custom enemy files and share them.
The next thing I want to do is add the ability to create descriptions for the start of the battle and when his picture changes, and to add the ability to give your enemy a 'Talk' menu. In the downloadable PC version you can also change the enemy's battle pictures and I'll eventually be taking commissions to make sets of battle sprites for people. It should eventually be powerful enough that you can make enemies with about as much complexity as anything that's already in the game
Also, Will the update have like a Character designer? Like be able to customize Some stuff from their appearance? (Such as Clothes, Accessories, Weapons, Fur/Skin color, and species?)
No, the character's pictures will have to either be supplied by yourself or I have a YCH-style set of battle sprites coming soon that can be bought
From what I've heard the next update includes stuff for the rival ^_^ I'm really excited to see how he looks and I hope we can give him our own muscle to watch him grow!

Hello! I downloaded version 15 (Android) back then (I think, idk how to check), and after some time, newer versions came out. I want to update, but my time machine at home refuses to work :(
Nothing happens if I click. It isn't a biggie, but is there no way to save before updating to a newer version?..

Ah, sorry sorry, I know. Android doesn't like apps touching files on your device for security reasons. Until I figure out a way to work around that, I should probably just remove the button from the Android version. So no, there isn't a way to transfer files between the android versions

Its been awhile since I've played, spent a good day checking out everything old and new. Like the additions added to old content, and the new ones are fun too. Your updates may be small, but they are quality, and you a good job of addressing bugs. There may be some text or talks that go over subjects I don't entirely agree with or understand, but I know, like me, there are reasons that have lead to your thoughts being as they are.

All it is, is for real life, just be careful about usage of substances that lead to behavioral changes, just because we deserve the freedom, doesn't mean we can simply ignore the consequences. Too much and it becomes hard for one to recognize others and others to recognize them as people with feelings. The alterations kept long enough cause walls to put up that can lead to misjudgments (Overdose/Intoxication/Addiction). Even for me to have been on something as simple as anti depressants, while small, kept me from feeling sad at times I should have been. It all ends up being double edged if we don't have others to call us out on the changes, good or bad. There are more examples I could give, but that starts to end real rocky butt hurt territory. Things like this keep us from being able to realize how we are making others feel if we end up making our feelings matter more than others. Freedom and moderation to share compared to addiction and anarchy to hoard. A matter of knowing what goes too far as to use freedom as a means to oppress or silence others for trying to voice their concerns, and then there are the yes people who will agree just to make themselves look good. Your game doesn't go into detail on these, nor should it, but it hints at it in places, because it doesn't go overboard. Issue many have with me is because I like to think about issues, and it gets exhausting running into people who think only their opinion matters. I don't expect anyone to follow, but neither do I want to drag this out.
Oh, I see! I think I followed what you're saying anyway. Though, I'll likely go more into issues like that in the future since I want to have more interactions with some of these characters. I'm just trying to share thoughts and feelings I've had in a way that's entertaining and people can take from that what they want.
Does the save progress reset with every update?
If you create a save through the time machine it can be transferred between different versions, but the regular saves will not

this game never ceases to amaze me, I still remember its beginnings, and to see what it has become now is simply beautiful.
I had an idea while playing and getting the demonic werewolf transformation, and it is that if the giant werewolf is affected by the wolf blood .... why not the other characters?
Just imagine the possibility of transforming other characters with the vials (or yourself if you have the permanent transformation, with some ability or the classic bite).
I don't say that it is permanent, but for example if you use the vials the transformation will only last that combat, and if for example you bite him the transformation will last 1 day (that is until you sleep and spend the day).

Thank you! And for the transformation idea, it would be cool but I don't think I could do that. It seems like then I'd have to draw wolf/dragon forms for all of the characters, and that's kind of a lot. As for the purple necklace you try using salt on the ghost while wearing it. There's a hint to that if you use the dragon's ability against the Rogue - I'll probably have more to clue people in to that later, but that's it for now
What are you supposed to do with the xp potion for the quest board?
you can use it with the forest knight, just try to be strong enough before you use it.

Playing curse of debt and got a second "curse book: volume 2", first i think was from one of the quests and the second from a chest the alligator brings you at the pier, there's supposed to be only 1 volume 2 right? And how did I get him to bring me a chest?
Really, you got two of them? Hm, I've never seen that before. But to get him to bring you a chest you have to do the scene with him on the ship and then wait a few days

Yup, the Rogue will have a scene eventually. For the dark XP bottle, you should already be able to use that when you battle the knight. It sets his level back to 1
Speaking of the rogue, when you have the spirit inside of you and it's the rogue without the spirit, when he says "A certain word you need to say while meditating in the temple of pure light", what would the word be, or at least give me a hint.
If you go to the temple at night you can get a book - the answer is related to that

I see lots of people keep asking things, have you considered making a guide so you don't have to stop and answer them every time?
Also, I feel like it would be really nice if we got to know what our sperm was being used for, or maybe even if we could decide where it goes if you have multiple ideas
At some point I want some kind of hint system in the game to help with that sort of thing. Instead of making a guide, if I get a lot of questions about something, I'd be more interested in either designing it so it's easier to understand or have some sort of hint

Um, it's a fine idea, I've been asked about it before - I just haven't really thought of what I would do. I might do it if I'm in the mood and come up with something I feel is good
When can you start using magic?
If you have the strength spell, you can try using it against the cobra by talking to him. Or if you have the focus stone equipped or the magic wand you can use the spell that way. After using the spell you can come back for more
I want to use the fattening spell
Have you used the strength spell and returned to the shop? You should be able to get it. Also if you beat the Cobra, you'll get the magic wand that'll let you cast spells as long as you have the arousal level to cast them
